For the last 69 years, The Malone has served Lincoln families and youth through unique programs centered around inclusive, cultural, educational, employment and welfare services. With their active support against multigenerational poverty, their initiatives have extended beyond the center and have grown throughout neighboring communities year after year. Malone consistently challenges itself to execute new goals that empower those they serve, creating positive change, and leading with integrity.
Through various annual outreach events such as Juneteenth, the Back to School Bash (in partnership with VisionarYouth), Birth & Baby Fairs hosted by the Malone Maternal Wellness program, Thanksgiving giveaways, and more, commitment has remained strong to support and bring local community members together.
Malone programs promote overall health and wellness, striving to create an environment where everyone is welcome and can trust that Malone supports their best interests.
Malone’s Education programs are designed to elevate the next generation. The goal is to provide parents with a safe, dependable childcare environment that further enables their children to succeed. Youth Programs include:
- Early Achievers Academy (EAA) (ages 3-5) is an all day, high quality preschool program available Monday – Friday, that prepares children for Kindergarten and beyond. Recently, the Malone EAA program earned a top honor through Nebraska’s Step Up to Quality program; Step 5. Step 5 indicates that Malone far exceeded quality standards of childcare.
- Culler Community Learning Center (CLC) is a free after school program located in Culler Middle School that prepares children with the skills and experience needed to navigate through life as a young adult and set goals for a successful future.
- Out-Of-School Program (ages 5-12) picks children up from 13 local LPS schools daily and brings them to the Malone for a safe, enriching environment after the school day concludes.
Malone Wellness programs offer vital health and wellness programming for all Lincoln communities. Programs include:
- Maternal Wellness is a program that is committed to combatting the inequities and disparities in Black infant and maternal health by providing affordable, and safe perinatal services. Participants in this program must be up to 36 weeks gestation and identify as a BIPOC individual. This honored program has served hundreds of clients throughout the years and continues to grow deeper roots in both the Lincoln and Omaha areas.
- Health & Healing is a new program that focuses on expanding the overall wellbeing of the community they serve. The Malone Health & Healing team works with families to create an individualized journey for each family member who is enrolled in our program. Our work ensures that family members get the education and empowerment they need to grow, and make the life changes they are seeking. Whether it be one on one meetings or support groups, the team offers a network of connection to support those who need it.
Malone Youth Leadership & Development programs provide youth with the skills necessary to develop into young leaders. Programs include:
- Take Pause is a program that creates positive interactions between teens and Lincoln police offers. The goal is to build trust, respect and mutual understandings leading to better community-based policing.
- Young Men & Women’s Youth Leadership Academy for Business is a program that delivers focused youth coaching to teach skills and develop qualities that prepare them to be exceptional future leaders within the career paths they choose to pursue.
Malone Athletics program offers sporting opportunities for youth with options such as Basketball, Football, Track & Field, and Volleyball. The program’s mission of expanding opportunities for all Lincoln youth by providing positive role models and experiences is what each Malone coach strives to deliver. Through Malone athletics, athletes can expect to learn about character, sportsmanship, leadership, and adversity.
New Facility. In April of 2024, Malone said goodbye to its historic building that stood strong at 22nd & U street in Lincoln for nearly 70 years. The building was demolished to allow space for the new 55,000 sq ft building, projected to be completed in 2025. While bittersweet, the Malone team is enthusiastic and excited for the endless possibilities of having a new operational space from which to serve the community.
Those interested in receiving services from or partnering with the Malone are invited to visit their website and meet their team. Malone embraces collaboration because it furthers community impact and outreach when everyone works together.
