Community Crops Program Grows Local Food

The Community Crops Program of Family Service Lincoln provides education, advocacy, and experiences to grow local food. True food security means that everyone in Lincoln has an adequate, consistent supply of healthy and culturally appropriate food to live productive lives.

The Crops program provides land access to local growers by stewarding fourteen sites and nearly nineteen acres of farms, gardens, and greenhouses that support over just over200 Lincoln growers and households. To grow with them, visit their website for more information on how to apply for a garden or farm plot. Urban Grower classes are free to attend and offered throughout the year on a variety of sustainable growing topics. Current class listings and registration can be found by checking out the education page of the website.

You can also find the Crops team at Hub Farmer’s market, where they help provide SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks access to make the market accessible to more community members.

The work Community Crops does alongside local growers helps increase the availability of healthy and culturally important foods in our community. You can support Community Crops in a variety of ways:

  • Support the annual Crops Plant Sale and get veggie, herb, and pollinator plants for your garden this season.
  • Donate to the Community Crops Program through to help maintain and grow all of these amazing programs and more.
  • Volunteer to help keep our growing spaces thriving.
